Noble Energy says it’s drilled Colorado’s longest oil and gas well

In Colorado’s booming Niobrara oil field north of Denver, where oil and gas companies are drilling horizontal wells at a record pace, Noble Energy Inc. says it has drilled the state’s longest horizontal well ever.

The Houston-based company (NYSE: NBL) told analysts that it drilled a well that’s 9,978 feet long in Colorado.

The company also said it achieved a record production of 92,000 barrels of oil in the Denver-Julesburg Basin north of Denver during the first quarter, a 7 percent increase over the fourth quarter of 2012 and a 25 percent jump over the first quarter of 2012.

About half of that production — 45,000 barrels of oil per day — came from Noble’s wells that have been drilled horizontally, the company said.
