The widespread use of hydraulic fracturing by drillers in Colorado and other parts of the U.S. is a huge boost to mining companies that provide sand that is pumped into shale wells during the “fracking” process.

The Financial Times reports that as energy companies rush to buy shale assets and are investing millions of dollars into drilling operations, sand miners are trying to keep up with the demand for their highly prized commodity.
