GOLDEN (AP) – Federal officials are holding a forum in the Denver area on a drilling technique credited with unlocking more natural gas but criticized by some for possibly endangering water quality.
The Bureau of Land Management has scheduled a forum on hydraulic fracturing on April 25 at the Denver Marriott West in Golden. The technique, also referred to as “fracking,” involves injecting water, sand and additives underground to create fractures to help free the gas.
The BLM says the forum will focus on use of the practice on federal lands. Panelists will include experts from federal and state governments, the industry and environmental groups.
Other topics of discussion will include fracturing-fluid recipes, well construction and wastewater management.
