The prelude is over, and now it’s game on for the ballot fight over fracking and local control of oil and gas operations in Colorado.
Monday, an issue committee that’s received millions of dollars from oil and gas companies — Protecting Colorado’s Environment, Economy, and Energy Independence — launched two television ads carrying its message of bipartisan support for oil and gas development in Colorado.
The group — Protect Colorado for short — is campaigning against ballot proposals backed by U.S. Rep. Jared Polis, D-Boulder, that seek to tighten regulations on the oil and gas industry. That campaign last week started to collect the more than 86,000 signatures the proposals need to be placed on the fall ballot.
