Chesapeake Exploration gets ‘drilling and spacing’ OK in DougCo

Colorado regulators have approved the first oil and gas “drilling and spacing” request — a precursor to actual drilling — in Douglas County, as well as two dozen others in neighboring Elbert County.

Chesapeake Exploration LLC, a subsidiary of Chesapeake Energy Corp.bizWatch (NYSE: CHK), based in Oklahoma City, asked the Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) to approve 25 drilling and spacing units, each of them 640 acres in size, for horizontal wells to be drilled into the Niobrara formation in DougCo as well as in Elbert County, where drilling and spacing units have been approved previously.

COGCC approved the request Monday.
