Boulder oil and gas company targets Colorado’s North Park oil resources

Two longtime Denver-area oil and gas executives think they may have found the keys to unlocking what might become Colorado’s newest oil field — North Park, a high Rocky Mountain basin west of Fort Collins.

Boulder-based EE3 LLC has drilled two wells into the Niobrara rock formation under North Park that have done very well in their first days of operation, says Scott Martin, EE3’s Chairman and CEO, and Rich McClure, the company’s president.

Energy companies are spending billions of dollars drilling into the Niobrara rock layer along Colorado’s northern Front Range, and companies also are probing the possibilities of unlocking the oil reserves locked in the formation under North Park and in northwestern Colorado.

Privately held EE3 announced in October that its Hebron #3-12H horizontal well in North Park had produced about 1,054 barrels of oil in a 24-hour test period.
