Four more oil and gas companies on Thursday threw their support to the Hickenlooper administration’s proposed compromise legislation on local control of oil and gas drilling.
The two largest Front Range drillers, based on 2013 production, Anadarko Petroleum Corp. and Noble Energy Inc., both based in Texas, already backed Gov. John Hickenlooper’s efforts.
Among those adding their support in a letter for a draft bill released June 23 are Denver-based PDC Energy, the fourth largest Front Range operator, and Tulsa, Okla.-based WPX Energy, the largest Western Slope driller.
There are, however, limits to the support.
“WPX Energy’s support is only for the exact wording of this specific proposal at this time, unchanged,” WPX spokesman Jeff Kirtland said in an e-mail.
Also signing the letter were Great Western Oil and Gas Co. and K.P Kaufman Co., both based in Denver.
