Australian firm Entek Energy to drill Niobrara on CO/WY border

By JEREMY FUGLEBERG Star-Tribune energy reporter

An Australian firm will drill for oil in the Niobrara Shale formation this year from sites in south-central Wyoming, an area it says is seeing increasing interest from energy companies.

Entek Energy Ltd. says it will drill three exploratory wells at sites along the Wyoming-Colorado border, and the company heralded the exploration of the area as part of a shift from the Denver-Julesberg Basin centered in northern Colorado.

The basin is still the most active location for exploration of the Niobrara Shale and attempts to find oil in it. Those attempts by myriad companies have boosted acreage prices and led to speculation that Wyoming’s southeast could be on the verge of a boom in oil production from the shale.
